Faces of Care Warriors

A Dementia Care Warriors Storytelling Project

Faces of
Care Warriors

The online collection

Behind every dementia diagnosis is a family, a relationship, and a story worth telling. Explore portraits of dementia family caregivers and the loved ones they care for, captured through our annual Dallas exhibit and now shared with the world.

What began in 2016 as a small portrait project honoring dementia family caregivers has grown into an annual photography and storytelling initiative of Dementia Care Warriors.

About the Exhibit

Every portrait holds a relationship. Every family has a story.

Dementia can reshape a family’s routines, relationships, and sense of identity. As dementia progresses, the needs of the person living with the disease often take center stage, while the experiences, sacrifices, and identities of the family members caring for them can fade from view.

Each year, Faces of Care Warriors invites dementia family caregivers and their loved ones to a professional portrait session that honors them as people connected by love, history, and relationship. The portraits are unveiled at our annual Faces of Care Warriors Benefit and shared in community spaces, including exhibitions at Dallas Public Library.

For participating families, the portrait becomes something personal to keep. For other caregivers, the stories offer recognition and connection. For the wider community, they make the realities of dementia caregiving visible.

Millions of families are navigating dementia caregiving. Faces of Care Warriors helps put faces and personal stories to an experience too often understood only through statistics.

From Portraits to Film

FWD

FWD (Forward) is a short documentary that takes viewers beyond the portraits of Faces of Care Warriors and into the lives of dementia family caregivers. Through personal stories and candid conversations, the film explores the love, challenges, and changing relationships that shape the caregiving journey. It also shares the story of Dementia Care Warriors, the organization behind the exhibit, and its mission to ensure family caregivers are seen, supported, and valued. Together, these stories offer a deeper understanding of the people behind the portraits and the importance of supporting those who care for others.
